Abstract

863,328. Flavoured drinking-straws. FARRAND, B. R. June 23, 1958 [June 26, 1957], No. 19969/58. Class 14 (2). In spirally winding and bonding together strip material 10, 11 upon the exterior surface of a mandrel 12 by a tape belt 13, drawing the drinking-tube A so produced off the mandrel and cutting the tube into suitable lengths, flavouring solution fed from a pressure vessel 30 flows through a bore 27 in the mandrel and is deposited as a spiral coating on the formed tube A as it is axially and spirally withdrawn. The coated tube may be heat-dried before being cut into suitable lengths. Figs. 3 to 6 (not shown) show various ornamental effects which can be produced.
