Abstract

1404360 Apparatus for moving vehicles ROLLS-ROYCE MOTORS Ltd 5 Dec 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 59556/72 Heading B7H An apparatus for moving a wheeled vehicle comprises a road wheel engaging roller 1, a second road engaging roller 2, and a prime mover for driving the rollers 1 and 2, such that the roller 2 rolls along the road surface and the roller 1 turns the road wheel, not shown, in the same direction of rotation as the roller 2. The rollers 1 and 2 may be in contact with one another and be of steel with a cover of rubber having a high coefficient of friction. The prime mover may be an air motor, electric motor or an internal combustion engine which drives the roller 1 through a chain 8 and sprockets 6 and 7. A handle 9 pivotally attached at 10 to the frame 4 carries a small wheel 11. In operation, the apparatus is jammed under the road wheel to provide the necessary reaction for the transmission of torque from the roller 1 to the road wheel. A third roller 3 is provided for stability.
