Abstract

1,133,284. Vibratory rollers. L. FRIEBERGER. 14 March, 1967 [4 April, 1966], No. 11852/67. Heading B7H. In a vibratory rolling machine, two roller elements are mounted side by side upon each of two parallel shafts, each pair of roller elements on one side of the machine being driven by a friction roller, the vibrator being driven from a power source from which the friction wheels are also driven through gearing which provides for differential driving for steering. The power source may comprise separate independently operable motors for the rollers and the vibrator. As shown, roller elements 3a, 3b, 3aa, 3bb are mounted on parallel shafts 2 and the machine is provided with I.C. engines 7 and 11 whose speeds are continuously variable. The vibrator shaft 5 is driven from engine 7, through a belt 8. The engine 11 is connected to a transmission gear comprising a reversing gear 12, gearing 13 and differential 14, 15, the output shafts 18a and 18b of which are connected to the friction wheels 20a and 20b which have pneumatic tyres and which bear upon the roller elements. The shafts 18a and 18b may be adjustably mounted and variably spring loaded or the roller tyre pressures may be varied to adjust the pressure upon the rollers. Brakes 19a and 19b are provided upon the shafts 18a and 18b and are separately actuated for steering. The machine may be pedestrian operated with the controls mounted on a handle 21, or a seat and associated controls may be provided upon the machine. More than one friction wheel may be associated with each pair of roller elements.
