Abstract

140,324. Shanley, P. Sept. 15, 1919. Reciprocating-saw machines; tree-felling.-In a machine for felling trees &c. of the type comprising a saw frame reciprocated horizontally by a crank and fed forward by a screw, the saw 29 is secured bv draw-bolts 56 and nuts 57 in a frame 22 reciprocating horizontally in a groove in a holder 19. The holder 19 is provided with supports 18 sliding in grooves 17 in a bed-plate 1, and with a bracket 24 passing through a slot in the bed-plate and formed with a nut with which engages a screw 26. The holder 22 is provided with a bar 33 sliding in a driving-piece 32 which is reciprocated by a crank-disk 37 and connecting-rod 31. The shaft 38 of the crank-disk 37 is connected by sprocket- and-chain gear with the screw 26 and with a driving-handle 53 or with a motor. The bed-plate 1 is supported on legs so that its height can be adjusted by screws and nuts, and is provided with spikes 3 and a chain 4 for attaching it to the tree to be felled.
