Abstract

733,115. Sawing. FACCIO, E. A. June 11, 1953, No. 16135/53. Class 145. In a power-driven hacksaw machine, a cam 27 lifts the saw from the work 11 during the non-cutting stroke and presses it onto the work during the cutting stroke. The cam is mounted on a crankshaft driving the saw frame 16 through a pitman 18 and co-operates with a lever 24 rotatably connected to a feed screw 21. The latter engages a nut 22 on an overarm 15 slidably supporting the saw frame 16 and is provided with a ratchet wheel 30 rotated by a pawl 33 mounted on a rod 31 secured by a ball and socket joint 36 to the frame 16 and adapted to slide in a bracket 32. If the pressure required by the cam to depress the lever 24 on the cutting stroke exceeds a predetermined value, a spring-mounted plate 34 is depressed to rotate the rod 31 through a linkage and hence prevent the pawl from actuating the ratchet wheel.
