Abstract

171,640. Holman, J. M., and Holman, A. T. Jan. 21, 1921. Reciprocating-saw machines.- The frame of a log-sawing apparatus is in two parts connected by a tubular member 17 and clamps 18 so as to be adjustable lengthways. The front part 19 is hooked round the leg by a chain and wing-nut 29, and the rear part of the frame carries a motor 10, such as a compressed-air engine, which drives, through a crank disc 6 and toothed gearing 7, 8, a countershaft 5, on which is keyed a second crank disc 35 driving the saw frame 33 which slides in a guide frame 32. The latter is mounted to rock about the countershaft 5, and has an attached handlever 40 to alter the feed or raise the saw, a forked member 38 with a holding screw (not shown) being provided to hold the saw up if desired. The cross member of the guide-frame is lined with rubbing-strips. The crank drive for the saw frame may be replaced by an eccentric drive, whereby the path of the saw is made curvilinear, with the object of keeping the saw cut clear of sawdust.
