Abstract
1402746 Recovery of off-gases USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS INC 4 Oct 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 45797/72 Heading C7D In the recovery of CO from the off-gases of the basic oxygen process, the gases collecting in the hood 114 are kept free of N 2 or air by a curtain of CO 2 around the side of the hood. The gases, which consist of CO, CO 2 , O 2 and H 2 O, are cleaned, the O 2 reacts with some of the CO to form CO 2 in the unit 119, and the gases pass into an absorption system 121, preferably a hot K 2 CO 3 system, which separates CO and CO 2 . The CO 2 passes into stripper 123 and may be recirculated to form the CO 2 curtain around the hood 114. The CO has the last traces of CO 2 removed at 127 and water is removed at 129 using silica gel or molecular sieve absorbents.
