Abstract

1402350 Pump seals TRW Inc 2 July 1973 [14 July 1972] 31523/73 Heading F2B An hydraulically loaded sealing arrangement for a pump having intermeshing gears 18, 19, for maintaining minimum clearance between the gears 18, 19 and a easing 12 comprises a flexible sealing plate 34 for engaging the gears 18, 19, a load transfer element 36 for engaging the plate 34, and a rubber web 39, bonded to the element 36 and defining a recess 44 for receiving the hydraulic loading fluid. The element 36 and web 39 define a generally oval outer rim (50), Fig. 2 (not shown), joined by leg portions (54), (56)- (58) to circular segments (51), (52), surrounding shafts 20, 21 of the gears and in turn connected by a portion (53). The element 36 is of plastics material, e.g. polysulphone filled with glass fibre, and the plate 34 may be bi-metallic in form.
