Abstract

1349606 Endless-tracks CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 24 Jan 1972 [17 Feb 1971] 3308/72 Heading B7H [Also in Divisions F2 and E1-E2] A seal for a track link 13 is mounted in a counterbore 35 and makes sliding contact with the end face 31 of, for example, a bushing 25 connected to a track link 15 and surrounding a pin 21 the seal comprising a crescent-section ring 43 open radially outwards towards the side wall of the counterbore with a driving flange 47 in non-sliding contact with both the side wall and the end wall 33 of the counterbore and an elastomeric load ring 45 of polygonal-section; the driving flange 47 is connected to the sliding sealing flange 49 by a thin wall hinge section 51 and pressed into an interference fit with the counterbore. The links 13, 15 are spaced apart by a spacer 37. The load ring 45 may be made of polyurethane and its shape is such that during axial compression in use a radially inward force is produced to counteract the tendency of the sealing flange 49 to expand.
