Abstract

1400412 Refining Si-steel UDDEHOLMS AB 23 June 1972 [25 June 1971] 30038/71 Headings C7A and C7D A process of minimizing oxide inclusions in a Si-containing razor blade steel comprises remelting the steel by the electro-slag method followed by hot- and cold-rolling, the steel having the composition by wt per cent: part or all of the Mo being replaceable by twice the weight of W. In an example a steel containing 0.95% C, 1.5% Si, 0.75% Mn, 1.0% Cr, is prepared in an electric arc furnace, cast into electrodes, remelted by the electro-slag method in a fluorsparbased slag and re-cast. The ingots are then rolled, bloomed, hot-rolled and finally cold-rolled to the desired thickness, e.g. 0.1 mm.
