Abstract

1399699 Photographic material for physical development ITEK CORP 14 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 28315/73 Heading G2C Photographic material comprises a support carrying a photo-sensitive silver halide layer having a stoichiometric excess of halide ions, said layer having a thickness of less than 2 microns and containing a sulphur compound in sufficient quantities to catalyze the deposition of metal from a stabilized unitary physical developer in exposed areas, e.g. sodium thiosulphate, potassium thiocyanate, 6-amino-2-mercapto-benzothiazole, 2-mercapto imidazoline, sodium thioglycolate, cysteine, allyl thiourea, 2-amino-3-mercapto-1- propionic acid, 4-thiazolidine carboxylic acid and other compounds. The binder for the layer may be polyvinyl alcohol and the emulsion may be prepared in the presence of this binder and tetramethylthiuram disulphide or phenyl mercuric acetate. The physical developer may contain ferrous ammonium sulphate, ferric nitrate, silver nitrate, citric acid and acetic acid. The material support may be of aluminium and the exposed and physically developed material may comprise a printing plate.
