Abstract

1399432 See-saws; swings and rocking horses M R PAD 6 March 1973 [3 April 1972] 10864/73 Heading A6M [Also in Divisions A4 and H1] A piece of oscillating amusement apparatus such as a see-saw, swing or rocking horse, is provided with an oscillation maintenance device which comprises an electromagnet 16 having a hollow coil support 21 in which is frictionally mounted for reciprocating movement a cone 18 of ferromagnetic material. In one embodiment a cradle 1 is pivotally connected to a chassis 2, the electromagnet is connected to the chassis by a cable 8 and the core to the cradle by a cable 12. An electric current is intermittently supplied to the electromagnet when a switch 14 is closed on change in direction of the oscillation of the cradle. In a second embodiment a chair or rocking horse is supported on bow-shaped rockers 53 and the device is mounted on a cross bar 54 extending between the rockers. The ferromagnetic core has an extension 49 provided with a rubber piece which bears against the ground and the switch for providing an intermittent current is housed within the electromagnet.
