Abstract

1399340 Metal laminates BRITISH STEEL CORP 16 Nov 1972 [17 Nov 1971] 53395/71 Heading B5N A laminate comprises stacked metal sheets (particularly of steel) with adjacent sheets bonded to an intermediate core of fabric impregnated with an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer. The fabric may be a resin-bonded (e.g. polyacrylate bonded) non-woven fabric of rayon, nylon, polypropylene, polyacrylate, cellulose acetate or glass fibre or may be a woven fabric of any of these fibres or also of jute, cotton, sisal or silk. The fabric is preferably combined with the polymeric material in particulate form prior to stacking, usually by spraying on of the particles followed by heating. Lamination of the thus-impregnated fabric with the metal sheets is then effected by means of a heated multi-platen hydraulic press and subsequent cooling.
