Abstract

1399201 Vehicle rearview mirrors NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 23 Aug 1973 [29 Aug 1972] 40064/73 Heading B7J A periscopic rearviewing device in a motor vehicle comprises a first plane mirror 34 located in a casing 30 above an opening 24 in the vehicle roof 20, and second and third plane mirrors 44 and 46 within the vehicle, oriented so that an image of a scene behind the vehicle visible through a transparent plate 32 in a rear opening 30c of the easing 30 is reflected by the first mirror 34 downwardly through the opening 24 to the second mirror 44, which in turn reflects the image upward and forward to the third mirror 46, which finally reflects the image downward and rearward to a vehicle occupant 26. The second and third mirrors 44 and 46 are mounted as a unit rotatable together about a common pivot 42, with adjacent edges of the mirrors 44, 46 connected as shown or spaced apart, Fig. 2 (not shown). Instead of being mounted close to the roof 20 as shown, the mirrors 44 and 46 may be mounted on or in proximity to the vehicle dashboard.
