Abstract
1398531 Dehydrogenating paraffins ASHLAM) OIL Inc 14 Aug 1972 37872/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] C 2 -C 5 paraffins are dehydrogenated to give olefins and hydrogen by contact with a catalyst comprising (a) 5-15 wt. per cent of a group VI metal oxide and (b) 1-10 wt. per cent of a Group IV metal oxide both impregnated on an inert oxide support under conditions including 550-1250‹ F., 0À01-2600 mm. Hg. and 0À1-10 LHSV. The catalyst may also contain (c) 1-10 wt. per cent of an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal, rare earth metal or Group VIII metal preferably in oxide form. Catalysts used in the examples comprise oxides of (a) Cr or Mo, (b) Sn and/or Pb, (c) K or Cs, supported on Al 2 O 3 . The hydrogen resulting from the dehydrogenation may be used to hydrogenate liquids derived from coal by carbonization, pyrolysis or solvent extraction, using the same catalysts as for the dehydrogenation.
