Abstract
1,258,292. Reaction of alkyl aromatics. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 4 Dec., 1968 [15 Jan., 1969], No. 2405/69. Heading C5E. [Also in Division C1] Alkyl aromatics having a non-aromatic hydrocarbon content of less than 0À5 wt. per cent are subjected to isomerization, disproportionation or transalkylation at elevated temperature and pressure in the presence of hydrogen and in contact with a catalyst comprising an alkali metal cation-deficient zeolite having pores of at least 6 Š and a hydrogenating component selected from the metals of Groups I B , V A , VI A VII A and VIII of the Mendeleev Periodic Table. Suitable zeolites are faujasite, Zeolite Y, Zeolite L or preferably mordenite, suitable in the hydrogen form but optionally also containing Group II or rare earth metal cations. Nickel is the preferred hydrogenating component. Suitable feeds are C 7-15 alkylaromatics including naphthalenes, and the only example relates to the disproportionation of toluene.
