Abstract

1398512 Fuel injection to I C engines SOC INDUSTRIELLE GENERALE DE MECANIQUE APPLIQUEE 25 Aug 1972 [30 Aug 1971] 39813/72 Heading F1B A fuel injection pump assembly for an I. C. engine comprises a regulating member 2 connected to the pump and movable to adjust the delivery per revolution thereof under the control of a centrifugal governor 6 to which it is connected by means whose length in the direction of movement of regulating member 2 depends on the pressure of a control fluid acting against resilient return means 8. The connecting means includes an envelope E rigid with the regulating member 2, closure means S within the envelope E defining a variable volume chamber 7a subject to the control fluid pressure via admission means A, and a control member 3 connected to the closure means S and movable by the centrifugal governor 6. The return means 8 is within the envelope E on the side of the closure means S remote from the chamber 7a. The control fluid may be liquid or gas and in the latter case may be combustion air for supply to the I.C. engine. The admission means S then connects the chamber 7a to a conduit through which-pressurized combustion air is supplied to an engine by a supercharger e.g. an exhaust turbine driven compressor. Fig. 4 (not shown) indicates the dependence of pump delivery per revolution upon the pressure of the air supplied to the engine.
