Abstract

1398434 Multiple glazing; insulated frames GLAVERBEL 5 July 1972 [8 July 1971] 31516/72 Headings E1J and E1R The frame of a multi-glazed unit includes a peripheral member 6 or 86 bridging the gap between the panes and two side members 4, 5 or 85, 87 secured thereto, the outer panes, e.g. 1, 2, being urged against a sealing material 9 or 91 on the side members by a resilient spacer 3 or 82, and at least one of the side members e.g. 4 or 5 is releasably secured to the peripheral member. The frame components may be of wood, plastics or metal and may include plastics thermal barriers 83, 84 and may be connected together by screws, bolts or clips 88, 89 which are releasable by turning through 90‹. One of the side members may be glued to the peripheral member. A desiccant may be provided in perforated tubes 12 or in apertures 92 in the frame. The unit may include three glass panes, the resilient spacer serving to locate the central pane, Fig. 2 (not shown). The panes may be of different thicknesses and may be of plastics, laminate, or wired or tempered glass. The spacers may be soldered to a metal periphery of one of the panes.
