Abstract

1,147,030. Double glazed leaded light units. GLAVERBEL. 1 June, 1966 [29 June, 1965], No. 24468/66. Heading E1R. A glazing unit comprises two or more transparent or translucent sheets 1, 2, secured at their peripheral portions to lead strip spacers 3 soldered to tinned copper strip 16, 17 which adhere to the sheets 1 and 2, to form a hollow closed structure and a leaded coloured] window 5 connected by resilient means such as continuous or intermittent lead pieces 21 soldered to strips 17 and the flange 22 of the tinned mild steel frame 12 of the window 5. Alternatively, the strips 21 may be soldered to the base of the frame 22 (Fig. 6, not shown) the strips 21 may be replaced by resilient perforated tubular members (13, Fig. 4) glued e.g. by organic polysulphide or silicone to the frame 12 and to the pane 2 by a resilient adhesive layer, and the tubular members contain silica gel &c., or the tubular members may be replaced by channel section members. In a further embodiment the coloured glass leaded panel may be secured to the external face of a sheet 1, 2 by a thick resilient layer of transparent adhesive e.g. polyvinyl butyral to allow for differences in expansion of the window 5 and sheet 2, and preferably the sheet 2 is larger than the window 5 so that a seal e.g. of organic polysulphide can be effected around the perimeter of the window 5.
