Abstract

1397907 Cap applying head ALUMINIUM CO OF AMERICA 26 July 1973 [30 Aug 1972] 35627/73 Heading B8T A swage-on cap applying head 10 is mounted by an adapter 42 on a spindle 14 which has a rotatable sleeve 12, such that the adapter 42 enables a connection between the head 10 and the rotatable sleeve 12 thereby transmitting axial travel of the sleeve 12 to the head 10 without rotating the head with the sleeve. The adapter 42 comprises a mounting sleeve 44 secured on the spindle sleeve 12 by means of threads, a bearing assembly 46 which allows rotation of the spindle sleeve 12 without rotating the head body 16, and a spanner-plate 48 which enables the mounting sleeve 44 to be screwed on or off the spindle sleeve 12. In another embodiment, Fig. 5, the head body 16 of a crown head assembly 10 may be adapted to slide against adjacent head assemblies so that the head assemblies are prevented from rotating.
