Abstract
1,142,329. Securing rings on shafts. UNITED STATES METALLIC PACKING CO. 19 July, 1966 [12 May, 1966], No. 28317/68. Divided out of 1,142,326. Heading F2U. A clamping and driving ring 49 of a rotary mechanical seal described in Specification 1,142,326, is secured on a shaft 41 by a ball 58 which is housed in a radial bore 59 in the ring and is cammed into engagement with the shaft by the conical end 57 of an axially directed screw 56 in the ring. The latter may be solid or may be split into halves or three or more segments, the halves or segments being bolted together. The ring acts as an axial abutment for resilient means acting on a wear ring 47, and drives the latter by means of at least one axially extending pin thereof engaging an aperture in the wear ring.
