Abstract

1397678 Filters BRITISH-AMERICAN TOBACCO CO LTD 11 Dec 1973 [16 May 1973] 57382/73 Heading A2C A smoking tobacco product has a filter element surrounded by a filter wrapper, these being provided a coating of at least one additive, applied to the surface of the filter wrapper adjacent to the filter element for selective filtration of smoke. The filter element may be a cellulose acetate plug which not infrequently contains a plasticiser e.g. triethylene glycol diacetate. The filter wrapper may be coated with zinc acetate, if desired together with sodium acetate, cupric sulphate and acetate bufrered polyethyleneimine. Silver salts e.g. Ag- NO 3 are also stated to be useful coating materials as are salts of Cr, Fe, Co. The coating additives are useful in the removal of HCN and H 2 S from tobacco smoke.
