Abstract

1397586 Fixing apparatus XEROX CORP 9 Nov 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 51801/72 Heading G2H In a xerographic copying apparatus having an intermittently operated fixing unit, the warm-up period of the radiant electric heaters in the unit is kept to a minimum by providing a regulating means coupled to primary and auxiliary ones of the heaters for controlling the duration of the warm-up period in response to the length of time which has elapsed since the heaters were switched off. The regulating means may include a clock circuit for each of the primary and auxiliary heaters which circuits are arranged to permit a steady voltage rise in the heater circuit until a sense level is reached and then to maintain steady state power. Upon switch-off the voltage in each heater circuit is allowed to decay at a different rate and, if the fixing unit is again switched on, the voltages in each of the circuits is brought back from the level to which it has decayed to the sense level.
