Abstract

1397297 Comminuting cellulose sheets PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 22 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 44017/72 Heading B2A Cellulose sheet is comminuted by a disintegrator having a cylindrical disintegrating element 26 bearing teeth 24 Fig. 1 on its peripheral surface. Each tooth has an impact face angle α Fig. 2 of 15‹-40 and a relief angle # of 20‹ to 60‹. α is the angle to a radius of the cylinder passing through the tooth tip. # is the angle defined by the top of the tooth (i.e. its radially outermost surface) and a tangent to the side swept by the teeth and which tangent passes through the tooth tip. The teeth 25 are arranged in groups, the groups being successively displaced Fig. 3 in an arrangement of discs and spacers. Air is admitted under pressure to the disintegrator via a slot 21. Air flow also takes place via inlets 22 which may be controlled by valves. Discharged fibrous material is formed into a felt on a moving foraminous sheet 40. Vanes 32 .. 34 and 39, Fig. 5 modulate the air flow in the discharge from the disintegrator and thus the amount of fibrous material laid on the foraminous sheet and thereby the density of the resulting felt. The sheet 40 comprises a 22 x 24 mesh screen overlaid with a paper tissue. The disintegrator also includes vacuum airdischarge outlets 42 at the sheet feed inlet 19 arranged as in Fig. 8.
