Abstract
1397259 Vibratory ball mills COMBUSTION ENG INC 7 Nov 1972 [9 Nov 1971] 51354/72 Heading B2A A vibratory ball mill permits reclamation of foundry sand from moulds and comprises a base 12 Fig. 1 supporting on springs 14 a chamber 18 and a motor 26 which drives an eccentrically weighed wheel 32 to impart orbital vibration to the chamber at e.g. 15 Hz. Three sieve clocks are provided in the chamber. Sand moulds with castings are placed on the top deck 36 which has bars 38 and large holes 40 e.g. 2"-3" dia. A second deck 42 below deck 36 with holes e.g. ¢" dia. catches e.g. tramp metal and bonded sand lumps which may be cleared out by opening a door 48. The deck 42 supports balls 46 to crush the sand and communicates with a chamber 52 Fig. 13 via a small aperture 60. The chamber 52 includes rods 62 to assist in disintegrating material therein. A wire mesh screen deck 66 is of e.g. 20 mesh provided below deck 42. Oversize from this screen is returned by an elevator 80 into a chute 50 which communicates with the chamber 52 where it is ground by the rods 62 and returned to the deck 42 via the aperture 60. Sand (the product) from the floor 72 is classified (by means not shown) via an elevator 88 and reused. Dust is extracted from the apparatus via an exhaust conduit.
