Abstract
1470698 Reducing foundry sand; vibratory screens GEORGIA IRON WORKS CO 26 June 1974 [26 July 1973] 28358/74 Headings B2A and B2H Foundry sand lumps are reduced and binders at least partially removed by first vibrating the lumps 82 on a screen comprised of saw tooth bars 84 Fig. 4, agitating the reduced material in a fluidised condition above a slotted screen 98, passing the cleaned reduced material leaving the slotted screen through a stretched fine screen 106 typically 10-20 mesh and preferably 12 mesh and discharging the product at 126 Fig. 3, and removing via an outlet 118, tramp material. Vibratory motion with at least a vertical component is produced by an eccentric shaft 36 running at up to 5000 r.p.m. The screen 106 is tensioned by spring-biassed rods 114, Fig. 4. A discharge pan 120 may also be a 100-300 mesh screen. Air is drawn, by means not shown, through openings 128, 130 Fig. 4 to remove very light binder particles. The whole mechanism is suspended on springs 70 mounted in housing covers 78.
