Abstract

1397222 Lubricants; hydraulic fluids SUN RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO 2 Oct 1973 [2 Oct 1972 (4)] 45897/73 Heading C5F [Also in Division C2] Lubricants, lubricating greases or power-transmitting fluids contain a novel tertiary diamide of formula wherein R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms n is 4 to 12, m is 2 to 8, and x is 1 to 5. Preferred lubricating greases comprise (a) the diamide (b) 5 to 45% of a thickening agent, e.g. a saponifiable fatty substance and a saponifying agent, a preformed soap, an inorganic gel (e.g. colloidal silica) or a clay and (c) minor amounts of other additives, e.g. oxidation inhibitors, rust inhibitors, antiwear agents, detergent dispersants, foam inhibitors, dyes, odourizers and fillers (e.g. graphite, asbestos, metal oxides, powdered metals, metal sulphides or carbon black). Preferred power-transmitting fluids comprise (i) a base stock, e.g. a refined petroleum lubricating fraction (ii) up to 20 volume per cent of the diamide and (iii) a minor amount of an additive.
