Abstract

1358965 Metal-working lubricants ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO 7 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 10547/72 Heading C5F A water-emulsifiable composition comprises (1) a lubricating oil (10-90 wt. per cent), (2) at least one non-cationic emulsifier, (3) at least one carbonate-overbased alkali or alkaline earth metal sulphonate (1-30 wt. per cent), (4) at least one chlorinated hydrocarbonaceous material (i.e. a compound composed mainly of carbon and hydrogen) containing at least 5 wt. per cent of chlorine (1-40 wt. per cent), (5) at least one coupling agent and (6) water. The non-cationic emulsifier (2) may be a sulphonate, soap, ester or polyoxyalkylene compound (many specified) and may comprise 1-40 wt. per cent of the composition. The chlorinated material (4) may be a chlorinated hydrocarbon or an ester of a fatty, naphthenic or resin acid. The coupling agent, e.g. glycols and alcohols may comprise 0À5-10 wt. per cent of the composition, the water content of which may be 0À1-5 wt. per cent. The oil may be mineral or synthetic. Metal-working fluids comprise 0À5-60 vol. per cent of the above composition mixed with 99À5-40 vol. per cent water.
