Abstract

1396162 Recirculating flue gases; introducing inert gases; burners FORNEY INTERNATIONAL Inc 15 June 1972 [15 June 1971] 28141/72 Headings F4B and F4T An arrangement for introducing re-circulated flue gas or other inert gas into a furnace comprises a throat member 50 spaced from a burner nozzle 18 and the periphery of a burner port 16, and independent registers 54, 56 controlling the amount of inert gas delivered between the nozzle and the throat member, and between the throat member and the burner port. The inner stream of inert gas mingles with the combustion gases to modify the flame, while the enter stream shields the furnace walls. Recirculated flue gases may be delivered to the burner through a single enclosure which also delivers flue gas through independent apertures in the furnace wall, or separate enclosures may be supplied with flue gases to form the wall shield and the burner stream, and a separate damper may control delivery of flue gas to the burner nozzle (Fig. 2). The arrangement prevents formation of nitrogen oxides, and obviates interference with flame sensing devices.
