Abstract

1396023 Carburetters FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 19 Sept 1972 [4 Oct 1971] 43334/72 Heading F1B A carburetter comprises a housing formed with primary and secondary fuel induction passages 20, 26, Fig. 2 controlled by pivotably mounted primary and secondary throttle valves 16, 22 which have inter-connecting means whereby the secondary valve is cracked open in response to the closing of the primary valve. This prevents engine "running-on" after ignition cut-off by venting the induction passage. In the idle position shown in Fig. 2 the solenoid element 32 is energized to abut lever 28 to hold the primary throttle 16 slightly open whilst the secondary throttle 22 is spring closed. When the ignition circuit 33 is opened the solenoid is de-energized to retract element 32. When the primary throttle is spring closed, levers 28, 34 turn clockwise together so that portion 40 engages lever 38 turning it clockwise so that portion 42 engages lever 36 turning it clockwise thereby opening throttle 22 to vent the induction passages. Lever 34 may be slotted and inter-connected to lever 36 by a slidable link.
