Abstract

1395920 Fluidized bed decomposition of inorganic materials MITSUI SHIPBUILDING & ENG CO Ltd 23 May 1972 [26 May 1971] 24181/72 Heading C1A [Also in Divisions F4 and B1] Inorganic materials, e.g. Mg or Mn sulphates, are thermally decomposed in a fluidized bed roasting furnace using gaseous fuel wherein the fuel is introduced into the bed 10 through grids 3 provided in the wall of the furnace 1, thereby blowing the material dropped into the furnace from inlet 4 towards the centre of the furnace and thus eliminating the accumulation o material on the grid 2 below the inlets through which air is blown to support combustion of the fuel. The main grid 2 is preferably convex as shown. The angle # of the grids 3 with the horizontal may be 60 degrees. Thermally decomposed materials and waste gases, e.g. SO 2 are discharged at outlets 5 and 9 respectively.
