Abstract

1395270 Liquefying gas LINDE AG 17 Dec 1973 [18 Dec 1972 18 April 1973] 58356/73 Heading F4P Liquefaction of a low-boiling point gas in a line 1 is effected by heat exchange at 3, 4 with separate sub-streams of a refrigerant previously compressed and cooled in a closed refrigerant circuit, the first sub-stream being iseutropically expanded at turbine 12 before being warmed in exchanger 4 and the second sub-stream being further cooled in exchanger 13 and partially liquified before being expanded iseuthalpically through throttle 14 and then heated in exchange with the gas to be liquefied at 3. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the second substream is passed through a phase separator and valve before being heat-exchanged with the gas to be liquefied. In such a case, the liquid phase can be stored when demand is low to be released later at a time of peak demand.
