Abstract

1,268,688. Liquefaction and revaporization of natural gas. SOUTHERN GAS BOARD. 15 Oct., 1970 [15 Oct., 1969], No. 50739/69. Heading F4P. A method of liquefying natural gas during offpeak demand periods, storing of and then revaporizing the L.N.G. and feeding it to the consumer line 15 during high demand periods comprises withdrawing high pressure natural gas from the main 1, cooling and liquefying it by heat exchange at 5, 11 with a stream of liquid, e.g. propane withdrawn by a pump 35 from a cold store 28, expanding the L.N.G. at 12 into a reservoir 13, passing the major portion of sowarmed liquid propane through lines 33, 45 to a " cool " store 29, passing the minor portion through a line 44 and exchanger 5 to a " warm " store 30, withdrawing L.N.G. from reservoir 13 and revaporizing and warming it in exchangers 11, 5 traversed by warm liquid propane withdrawn at 49 from store 29 by a pump 51 and at 44 from pressure store 30, the so-cooled liquid propane then being fed through line 33 to the cold store 28. During the time interval between a liquidation period and a revaporization period cold losses are made up by expanding high pressure N.G. at a turbine 26, and using it to cool a further heat exchanger 27 in liquid propane line 49 and then feeding it to the consumer line 15. Benzine is separated at 6 from the N.G. prior to the main liquefaction and fed through lines 20, 21 to consumer line 15.
