Abstract

1,084,622. Liquefaction and re-vaporization of natural gas. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Feb. 3, 1966 [Feb. 5, 1965], No. 4809/66. Heading F4P. Liquefaction of natural hydrocarbon gas or revaporization of the gas in the liquid phase is effected by indirect heat exchange with a cold carrier comprising water mixed with at least one freezing point depressant; the carrier thus being warmed when effecting liquefaction and cooled during revaporization of the natural gas. Suitable depressants include ammonia, alcohols and diethylene glycol. After revaporization of liquid methane transported by tanker the socooled cold-carrier is fed into the tanker reservoir, transported back to the supply port and used to liquefy natural gas being loaded into the tanker. The so-warmed cold-carrier may either be transported back to the unloading port or the depressant, e.g. ammonia, removed therefrom and used in the manufacture of fertilizer or taken back to the unloading port.
