Abstract

1289551 Storing liquified gas SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 24 Dec 1969 [23 Jan 1969] 3955/69 Heading F4P Gas, taken from a consumer pipeline whilst the pressure is high, is liquified stored, and revapourized when the pressure drops. Gas, at high pressure, enters an insulated storage space 6 via a pre-cooler 1 and is liquified therein by heat exchange with a substance 7 having a phase transition temperature between the boilings points of the gas at the high and a lower pressure. The liquified gas is collected in tubes 5 surrounded by the substance 7. When the pressure in the pipeline, and space 6 drops, the gas is revapourized, again in heat exchange with the substance 7. The substance 7 may be initially cooled by an external supply of coolant from the line 9. The pre-cooler, which may be omitted, comprises an insulated space packed with stone chippings, and serves to condense unwanted high boiling fractions which may be run off. In another embodiment the storage space comprises an insulated space containing hollow bodies packed with the substance 7.
