Abstract

1394539 Tensioning webs THUNE-EUREKA AS 18 Sept 1973 [20 Sept 1972] 43684/73 Heading B8R A tensioning apparatus for paper making machine wires 6 comprises a tensioning roll 5 mounted in a pair of bearings 30 each of which is connected to a carriage 4 movable along rails 2 by an arm 27 pivotably connected to the carriage and biased in one direction by a pressurized bellows 8. The carriages are displaceable along the rails by a lead screw 24 driven by a motor (14, Fig. 1) to move the roll and vary the tension of the wire in response to actuation by one of three switches 34, 35, 36 which co-operate with a cam 38 on the pivotal arm 27. The centre switch 35 corresponds to central tension and in this position of the arm the motor is deactivated. The switch 34 corresponds to slackness in the wire 6, the bellows 8 pivoting the arm 27 and the motor displacing the carriages to the left until the tension in the wire overcomes the bias of the bellows and pivots the arm 27 into a position in which the cam 38 contacts the switch 35 to stop the motor. The switch 36 acts in the opposite sense with respect to the switch 34.
