Abstract

1394484 Tinning wires by hot-dipping SIEMENS AG 11 Jan 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 1470/73 Heading C7F A wire 3 of e.g. Cu is tinned by passing it through a bath of molten Sn or Sn alloy and withdrawing it vertically through a non-metallic, e.g. quartz glass, tubular member 8 which is in contact with the bath and contains an insert 9 of e.g. synthetic resin having an orifice 9' for the wire. The space between the bath and insert contains an agent, e.g. zinc chloride, for dissolving tin oxide. The zinc chloride may be fed by an electromagnetic metering valve to a flange 12 on the insert to give an even distribution. Vapours are allowed to escape through a bore 22 in the insert, or a bore in the tubular member 8.
