Abstract

1394227 Electrostatic precipitators BRAUN AG 26 July 1972 [28 July 1971] 34930/72 Heading B2J An electrostatic air filter comprises a housing 10 formed with an inlet grid 13 and discharge slits 15; a fan 11; a mechanical filter 14 for coarse dust, threads etc; charging electrodes 16; electrodes 1 and 3 connected to a high voltage d.c. source and forming a discharge channel for the air from fan 11; and a folded member 17 which is disposed in the electrostatic field between the electrodes 1 and 3 and which carries an active substance, e.g. potassium permanganate, sodium persulphate, activated carbon, kieselguzr, zeolithe, or a gel, to absorb or react with particles in the air undergoing treatment. The active substance may be carried by the electrodes 1 and 3 themselves. Thus each electrode may be in the form of a metal plate, a metallised plastics plate or a foil, preferably constituting a grid whose interstices are filled with the active substance, or a metallised fabric impregnated with the substance which may itself be conductive. The treated electrodes may be formed, by winding, into a cartridge and an embodiment using such constructions is described with reference to Figs 5 and 6 (not shown). The carrier member 17 may be of corrugated paper or fabric, and may include an auxiliary heating device. A humidifying device and a beater may be provided in the discharge channel of the filter.
