Abstract
1394065 Pneumatic conveyers HAUNIWERKE KORBER & CO KG 30 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 15212/72 Heading B8A Apparatus for feeding rod-shaped articles, e.g. cigarettes, to a pneumatic conveyer tube comprises a container 13 with a rotary pocket wheel 1 mounted in the bottom thereof to transfer individual cigarettes therefrom to an area B where the pockets 2 are brought into communication with a source of pressurized air 33 to advance the cigarette through a duet 14 to the pneumatic conveyer tube (16), Fig. 2 (not shown). The lower portion of the pocket wheel is in contact with a sealing block 19, in which a duct 36, in communication with the source of pressurized air 33, supplies air to a duct 38 with a restrictor 46 and a duct 37. The latter registers with a slot 44 in the pocket wheel to provide a short blast of air to eject the cigarette from its pocket and the former duct 38 serves to pressurize each pocket before same is aligned with the duct 14 and thereby equalize the pressures therebetween. The pocket wheel is urged against an end seal block 28 by springs 22 acting on a bearing 26 and is removably mounted by a linkage 51, 53 to facilitate the removal of blockages &c. The lower end of the side of the container where the pocket wheel leaves the container is provided with a contra-rotating roller (76), Fig. 3 (not shown), to prevent cigarettes, which do not enter the pockets, from being crushed between the container and the pocket wheel. One end wall (8) of the container is provided with a pusher plate 81 extending the width of the container and actuated by an electromagnet 82 to engage the end of the cigarettes and hold them against the opposite wall of the container to prevent further downward movement thereof. The electromagnet is controlled by sensing means (not shown) downstream of the feeding apparatus.
