Abstract

1393588 Apparatus for electroslag refining BRITISH STEEL CORP 31 Aug 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 40940/72 Heading B3F In an apparatus for electroslag refining comprising a mould (one wall of which is identified by the reference numeral 1) mounted on a baseplate 2 provided with a channel 4, and a pouring device 3 for supplying molten slag to the mould via the channel 4, the channel is covered along at least that part of its length which lies beneath the mould wall 1 by a plate 5 which is separable from the base-plate 2. The plate 5 may be secured to or form part of the pouring device 3. At the conclusion of an electroslag melt, the mould and plate 5 may be separated from the base-plate 2 to facilitate the removal of any solidified slag present in the channel 4. The base-plate may be provided with coolant passages 7.
