Abstract

1393488 Coated Products E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 14 Sept 1973 [15 Sept 1972] 43231/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Quartz, poly (methylinethacrylate) and polycarbonate sheets are coated with UV-screening compositions based on novel UV-absorbing silanes of the formula wherein R denotes a divalent hydrocarbon or oxygen-interrupted hydrocarbon radical of up to 10 carbon atoms, R<SP>1</SP> denotes an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical or acyl radical of less than 5 carbon atoms, or a radical of the formula (CH 2 CH 2 O) u Z wherein u is an integer of from 1 to 8 and Z is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical of less than 5 carbon atoms, R 2 denotes a stable mono- or divalent hydroxyaromatic radical containing up to four aromatic rings and joined to oxygen through an aromatic carbon and absorbing light in the region of 2,500 to 4,000A, a is 0 or 1 and b is 1 or 2, and containing as further ingredients ethanolic polysilicic acid, tetrafluoroethylene/ 4-hydroxybutyl vinyl ether copolymers, n butanol tert-butanol mixed solvent, and optional amounts of glacial acetic acid, hexa- (methoxymethyl) melamine, a block copolymer of an alkylene oxide and dimethylsiloxane, methanolic potassium thiocyanate and 2, 5, 8, 15, 18, 21-hexaoxa-tricyclo (20.4.0.0 <SP>9</SP> <SP>14</SP>) hexacosane.
