Abstract
1393365 Zeolite AG1 IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 Sept 1972 [23 Sept 1971] 44402/71 Heading C1A A zeolite AG1 having a molar composition in the range 1À05Œ0À3 M 2 O : Al 2 O 3 : 40-#7À5 SiO 2 , where M is K (or a mixture of K and Na), and a given X-ray diffraction pattern, is prepared by reacting at least one aluminium component, at least one silicon component, and at least one alkali metal component, in an aqueous medium, the sole or major silicon component being a water glass having a molar ratio SiO 2 /M 2 O of 3À5 to 4À0 (where M=K, or a mixture of K and Na), to give a reaction mixture with oxide molar ratios in one of the following ranges: and crystallizing out the zeolite from the reaction mixture. The cation(s) of zeolite AGI can be replaced by any cation(s) of metals of Groups Ia, Ib, II, III (including rare earths), VIIa (including manganese), VIII (including noble metals), and of lead and bismuth, or by hydrogen, by contacting zeolite AGI with a metal compound in aqueous solution or with a source of hydrogen ions. Alternatively the hydrogen form of zeolite AGI may be prepared by first preparing an ammonium or alkyl or arylammoniura form of zeolite AGI by ion exchange and decomposing it by heating, preferably in air.
