Abstract

1350241 Aluminosilicophosphates UNION CARBIDE CORP 25 June 1971 [26 June 1970] 29796/71 Heading ClA A crystalline aluminosilicophosphate, claimed per se, has the following composition (0À5-1À2) M 2 /nO. Al 2 O 3 (1À0-2À3) SiO 2 . (0À01-0À5) P 2 O 5 (0-4) H 2 O, wherein M represents an exchangeable cation, n the valency of M, phosphorus is present as a crystalline framework substituent and the crystalline aluminosilicophosphate has an X-ray diffraction pattern with at least the values shown in Table I (not reproduced). The potassium aluminosilicophosphate may be prepared by forming an aqueous reaction mixture containing a source of silica, aluminium, phosphorus, and potassium cations, the composition of such mixture expressed in terms of oxide mole ratios being: thereafter digesting the mixture at 100 to 200‹ C. for from 24 to 300 hours and recovering the solid reaction product of such digestion. Suitable reagents may include aluminas, aluminium containing salts (e.g. aluminium chloride) phosphosphoric acid, alkali metal hydroxide, potassium silicates and amorphous solid silicas (e.g. Cabosil-Registered Trade Mark). The solid reaction product may be contacted with at least one cation from any of the following ammonium or hydrogen ions or mono-, di-, tri- and tetravalent ions of Groups I, II and III and the canteramide and actimide series of the Periodic Table. In Example 1, an aqueous solution of H 3 PO 4 and AlCl 3 .GH 2 O was titrated with KOH, the resulting precipitate filtered, washed and blended with silica and KOH solution. The reaction mixture was digested at 175‹ C. for 94 hours. In Example 2, Al 2 O 3 . 3H 2 O was dissolved in KOH solution. The resulting solution and H 3 PO 4 solution were added simultaneously to a slurry of silica in water and blended. The reaction mixture was digested at 175‹ C. for about 70 hours.
