Abstract

1394163 Zeolite IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 31 Jan 1973 5492/72 Heading C1A A new large pore zeolite (AG4) is made by reacting in an aqueous medium at least one aluminium containing component, at least one silicon containing component and at least one alkali metal hydroxide in the presence of substantial quantities of added anion selected from a nitrate, chloride sulphate, phosphate or permanganate preferably of sodium or potassium, or both, or of aluminium, the composition of the resulting mixture falling within the molar ranges SiO 2 : Al 2 O 3 =5-50; K : Na+K= 0À2-1À0; M 2 O : SiO 2 =0À25-1À0; H 2 O : M 2 O= 10-160; Added Anion : Al 2 O 3 =1-50, where M is K, Na or K+Na and crystallizing out the zeolite from the reaction mixture. The silicon component may be an alkali metal silicate, silica sols., silica aerosols, waterglasses or freshly ppted. silicic acid. The AG4 zeolite produced has the molar formula where M is K or K+Na, but may be ion exchanged for other ions, having an X-ray diffraction pattern as specified therein.
