Abstract

1392321 Printers EXTEL CORP 17 March 1972 [19 March 1971] 12763/72 Heading G4H An electronic control system for a dot matrix printer produces, in response to a start pulse preceding a code group of data pulses (representing a character to be printed or a non-print function), an input clock signal having a frequency equal to a predetermined multiple of the data pulse rate, the data pulses each being shifted into a receiving register at a given clock count, and the contents of the receiving register being transferred to a storage register at a given clock count upon completion of recording of a complete code group in the receiving register. This completion is detected by arrival of the start pulse at the far end of the receiving register, the transfer from receiving register to storage register being accompanied by initiation of a print clock, pulses from which are counted, the count controlling advance of a stepping motor (which advances the column of print wires), and selection of successive columns in a character generator also responsive to the storage register. Non-print functions are detected in the storage register to inhibit or otherwise control the stepping &c.
