Abstract

1447878 Control of printers ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 26 Oct 1973 [27 Oct 1972] 49904/73 Heading G4H A dot-matrix printer driven by a reversible motor includes a coding disc for indicating the position of the recording head 13 along the printing line. Head 13 contains seven electrodes for printing a character as a 7 x 5 dot matrix, the five sets of signals I-VII therefor being extracted from a read only memory 11 connected to a data source 10 (tape or computer). As shown, the disc contains markings 20 arranged in groups of five (one for each column) and markings 26 indicating the end of the symbol. Devices 21, 27 (which include phototransistors) sense the markings and respectively increment and reset a counter 24 connected to a decoder 25 which provides sequential inputs 1-5 to memory 11, the highest of which also causes source 10 to output the next character.
