Abstract

139,213. Kennedy, J. E. March 18, 1918, [Convention date]. Fuel, feeding.-In the supply of pulverized coal to furnaces, more especially marine-boiler furnaces, drying is effected between the crushing and pulverizing stages by the waste combustion products from the furnaces. Coal from the crusher C is taken by an elevator E to a gravity dryer D, through which gases from the stack b<1> are caused to circulate by lateral flues b<2>, b<3> and appropriate dampers. The coal thus dried passes by a shoot d to the pulverizer P, whence it is carried by a fan F<2> to collectors Q delivering to a trough conveyer T having controlled outlets corresponding to the several burner hoppers H and burners b'. The draught in the stack is assisted, when necessary, by a blower F delivering upwardly above the upper lateral flue b<3>.
