Abstract
1391933 Nitrofurylpyrimidines SCHEBING AG 13 March 1972 [17 March 1971] 11528/72 Heading C2C Novel compounds I and their acid addition salts in which R is an aliphatic hydrocarbyl group which may be substituted by one or two hydroxyl groups, by one or two acyloxy groups or by an alkoxy, dialkylamino, tetra hydrofuryl or phenyl group and R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or an acyl group, are prepared by reaction of a compound of Formula II in which R<SP>11</SP> is hydrogen or a nitro group (those in which R<SP>11</SP> is hydrogen being novel), and Z is an acyloxy group of a sulphonic acid or a bromine or chlorine atom with a primary amine R-NH 2 and a resulting compound not containing a nitro group in the 5-position of the furyl ring is nitrated and, if desired, in the resulting compound any -NH- group or hydroxyl group may be acylated, any acylamino group or acyloxy group may be hydrolysed, or resulting free compound may be converted into an acid addition salt, a resulting salt converted into the corresponding free compound by means of a base, each of the optional steps being carried out before or after nitration. Compounds of Formula I have anti-bacterial action and one or more such compounds form with a suitable carrier a pharmaceutical composition which may be administered orally.
