Abstract
1391273 Stuffer box crimper PLATT INTERNATIONAL Ltd 23 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 4465/72 Heading D1F [Also in Division G3] A stuffer-box-crimped yarn is wound into a package by means driven by a D.C. electric motor, and the yarn plug level in the box is maintained between limits by controlling the motor speed in accordance with the rate of yarn feed to the box, the plug level and the package diameter. As shown, Fig. 1, crimped yarn 30 is withdrawn from plug 32 in stuffer box 8 and wound on package 34 rotated by D.C. motor 28. Crimping wheels 6, rotated by D.C. motor 12, feed yarn into the box. Tacho-generator 39 driven by motor 12 produces a voltage dependent upon the yarn feed rate. Ultrasonic or photoelectric emitter-detector units 18-14 and 20-16 detect plug level movement. Arm 26 pivots with package growth to adjust diameter sensor 41. The voltage produced by tacho-generator 39 is fed as a speed reference voltage to amplifier 62, Fig. 2, to control thyristor 63 which controls the armature voltage and speed of motor 28. Diameter sensor 41 controls variable resistor 69 to reduce the reference voltage in direct proportion to the increase in package diameter. The voltage produced by tacho-generator 37, driven by motor 28, is fed to amplifier 62 to maintain motor 28 rotating at a speed resistant with the reference voltage. When the level of plug 32 falls so that detector 16 receives pulses from emitter 20, switch 72 is opened to introduce resistor 71 into the circuit to decrease the reference voltage to produce a five per cent decrease in the speed of reactor 28. When the plug level rises so that detector 14 is prevented from receiving pulses, switch 74 is closed to shortcircuit resistor 75 to produce a five per cent increase in motor speed.
