Fastenings for doors.-In doors of hotel-rooms, closets, &c., the operation of the inside handle to close the door from the inside automatically blocks the outside handle against movement. Figs. 1 and 3 show the position of the parts when the room &c. is unoccupied. The outside handle 4 can then be operated, a follower 6 on its spindle withdrawing the bolt 50, and a projection 8 on the follower entering a recess 11<1> in the wheel 11. The bolt is shot forward again by the spring 17. When The bolt is again withdrawn by the inside handle 5 to close the door, a tooth on its follower 7 operates the star wheel 12 and turns the wheel 11 to obstruct the movement of the follower 6 of the outside handle. On turning the inside handle to open the door, the star-wheel 6 is again operated and a recess 11<1> of the wheel 11 brought opposite the projection 8 of the follower 6. A sliding snib 24 can be used to turn the star-wheel slightly and place the blocking-mechanism out of action. A pawl 13 controls the action of the star-wheel. A pin 21, Fig. 5, on the bolt 50 passes through the casing and enters a slot 27<1> in a disk 27 mounted on the casing. The disk 27 can be turned through a right angle. by a key to lock the bolt. Coinfreed mechanism may be provided for the outside knob. As shown in Fig. 11, a pivoted bell-crank 42 normally engages a notch 44 in the projection 8 of the follower 6 and locks this against operation until the bell-crank is released by the weight of a coin 48. A pin 47 on the follower presses down the bell-crank and releases the coin when the outside handle is turned.
